There appears to be some warning signs for President Donald Trump, according to new polls.
A The Economist / YouGov poll released on Tuesday found that 55% of Americans strongly or somewhat disapprove of Trump’s job performance — marking the highest disapproval level since the start of his second term. The poll, conducted from July 11 to July 14 among 1,680 U.S. adults, found that 41% strongly or somewhat approve of his performance.
Trump’s net job approval, which contrasts the percentage of respondents who approve minus the percentage of those who disapprove, stands at -14, which is close to the lowest recorded in an Economist / YouGov poll throughout both his first and second terms.
The poll marks a slight shift from the previous week, which recorded a 53% disapproval rating and 42% approval rating. While starting his term with 43% disapproval and 49% approval, his recent slump could be attributed to declines in approval among Democrats and Independents, the poll noted.
Since the start of his presidency, Trump’s job performance approval had fallen from 12% to 3% among Democrats. For Independents, his approval has dipped from 41% to 29%. Meanwhile, Americans who identify as MAGA Republicans have consistently maintained their support for the president, which hovers around 98%.
A CNN and SSRS poll released on Wednesday recorded similar findings. When asked whether respondents approve or disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job as president, the president’s “approve strongly” number is lower than at any point in his first or second terms, according to the outlet’s past polling spanning from January 2017. It is reported to be 21%.
Trump received a net approval rating of 42%, and a net disapproval rating of 58%, with 45% of respondents saying they disapprove strongly of his performance.
The poll was concluded from July 10 to July 13 and surveyed 1,057 U.S. adults. The margin of error is 3.5 plus or minus percentage points.
