Michael Carrick has been almost faultless for Manchester United since taking charge in January, with his chances of becoming the permanent head coach improving weekly.

After racing to four wins and a draw in his opening five games as interim manager for Manchester United, it is no shock that Michael Carrick is now a serious contender to become permanent.

United fans are very keen on Carrick, with his immediate impact restoring the club to a respectable level immediately after 14 awful months under Ruben Amorim.

As an example of his quality, Carrick won the Premier League manager of the month award for January.

According to TeamTalk, United figures were always convinced by how good Carrick would be as head coach.

The report explains that Jason Wilcox and staff always thought Carrick had the potential to force himself into consideration to be the next permanent head coach, and they are privately happy he has.

One source told the outlet that United are loving Carrick for three reasons.

“His style, demeanour and attitude.”

The admiration for Carrick within the club is growing weekly. Carrick has now pushed himself deeper into the conversation for the permanent job than anyone thought he would have.

There are also other reasons why Carrick’s chances may have skyrocketed.

Manchester United manager options dropping every day

There is likely a substantial list of players being considered by United to become permanent, Carrick among them, but names are currently dropping like flies.

First, Thomas Tuchel signed a new deal with England, which will keep him as the Three Lions’ boss until after the European Championships in 2028.

Following this, Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly agreed to a new four-year deal with Brazil, which keeps him in charge of Selecao until after the 2030 World Cup.

These were two of the head coaches with the best CVs set to be available in the summer, but no longer are.

This dramatically cuts the options rated higher than Carrick, and the United legend might even be in pole position right now, with Luis Enrique probably the only name rated higher.
