Kent fire crews tackle blaze at former Odeon cinema in Canterbury

Fire crews are tackling a blaze which broke out in a derelict cinema on Saturday afternoon.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) said it was called just after 14:00 GMT to the former Odeon building St George’s Place in Canterbury, where 15 fire engines are on the scene.

People living nearby have been asked to keep doors and windows closed due to the amount of smoke coming from the building.

At 17:00, a spokesperson for KFRS said it was making “good progress” extinguishing the fire using hose-reel jets.
