Plymouth Argyle produced an absolutely dominant display from start to finish as they beat Blackpool 4-0 at Bloomfield Road.
Blackpool were very poor, make no mistake, but the ruthless way the Pilgrims went about creating scoring chances and converting so many of them was impressive.
It was a fifth win out of the last seven away League One games for Argyle as their form on their travels continues to be significantly better than at Home Park.

This was also the perfect response to losing back-to-back matches against promotion contenders Stockport County and Lincoln City and means they can look forward positively to the rest of the season, including a Vertu Trophy quarter-final away to Luton Town later in the month.
Argyle did not open the scoring against Blackpool until the 30th minute when on-loan Charlton Athletic defender Alex Mitchell got his first goal for the club.
Importantly, the Pilgrims then struck twice in first half added time, first through in-form forward Bim Pepple and then midfielder Malachi Boateng, to take a commanding three-goal advantage into the interval.
Caleb Watts added a fourth for the Pilgrims on the hour mark and Cleverley was able to make a number of substitutions during the second period with forthcoming away game against Leyton Orient on Tuesday in mind.
Goalkeeper Conor Hazard and on-loan Huddersfield Town midfielder Herbie Kane both started for Argyle against Blackpool as Cleverley’s starting line-up showed two changes from the 4-1 home defeat by Lincoln.
Hazard had missed the previous three matches due to a sprained ankle but returned to the team ahead of his back-up Luca Ashby-Hammond.
It was a game involving two Northern Ireland international ‘keepers with Bailey Peacock-Farrell between the posts for the Seasiders.
It was a first Argyle start for Kane after he made his debut as a second half substitute against Lincoln and he came into the side for Brendan Wiredu in central midfield alongside Boateng.
Top scorer Lorent Tolaj and Bradley Ibrahin were fit enough to be named among the Pilgrims’ substitutes after recovering from a dead leg and ankle injury respectively.
However, there was a blow for Argyle when defender Brendan Galloway broke down in training on Friday and will undergo a hernia procedure on Monday.
With Galloway sidelined, on-loan Millwall defender Wes Harding continued at left-back while Pepple started up front after recovering from the swollen eye which he suffered in a clash of heads during the Lincoln game.
Argyle took the kick-off and had the first scoring chance inside the opening 30 seconds as Watts met a cross from right-back Joe Edwards with a glancing header which went narrowly wide of the far post.
In a slight variation to Argyle’s regularly used 4-4-2 formation, Watts, Ronan Curtis and Owen Dale played behind Pepple in what was a fluid 4-2-3-1 set-up.
Blackpool threatened for the first time when Ashley Fletcher fired a low ball in from the right into the Pilgrims’ area but no-one in a tangerine shirt could get on the end of it.
Kane sent a 30-yard drive wide of the Blackpool goal before Mitchell, who had gone up for a free-kick, had a header comfortably saved by Peacock-Farrell.
Dale received Argyle’s first yellow card of the match, and 75th of the season, for kicking the ball away after his team-mate Ronan Curtis had been caught offside.
Blackpool defender Olly Casey made an important block when Argyle’s Mathias Ross had a shot inside the box after a good run and cut-back from Watts.

The Pilgrims had been the better side and deservedly opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Kane sent an angled free-kick into the box and Mitchell guided the ball past Peacock-Farrell into the net as he beat Olly Casey to the ball.
It was the on-loan Charlton Athletic defender’s first Argyle goal in his 31st appearance in all competitions and was a good reward for the positive start from the away side.
Watts almost extended the Pilgrims’ lead when he created a shooting opportunity for himself with some tricky skill on the ball and his low strike on goal was kicked away by Peacock-Farrell for a corner.
Blackpool’s former Argyle striker Michael Obafemi was substituted in the 42nd minute due to an injury he had picked up a few moments earlier as Tom Bloxham was sent on for him.
The Pilgrims did get their second goal of the game in the first minute of added time when Watts crossed the ball into the box and Mitchell’s attempt on goal was parried away by Peacock-Farrell but Pepple was the first to react to the loose ball as he headed home.
Argyle did not stop there, either, as they took a 3-0 lead in the fourth minute of added time. A corner from Curtis was only cleared as far as Kane, who was on the edge of the penalty area.
The midfielder had the time to place a low shot through a crowd of players and although it was beaten away by Peacock-Farrell the ball broke to Boateng, who sent it high into the net.
There was a double half-time substitution for Blackpool with Hayden Coulson and Josh Bowler sent on for CJ Hamilton and Jordan Brown and there was briefly more urgency about the hosts’ attacking play.
Striker Ashley Fletcher had a header from a dangerous position which deflected off Mitchell for a corner, with the resulting set piece cleared by the Argyle centre-back..
However, the Pilgrims had a decent chance to further extend their lead when Watts flicked the ball up into the air and it dropped to Pepple, whose first-time strike was straight at Peacock-Farrell.

However, it was 4-0 to Argyle on the hour mark when Edwards received the ball from Curtis and drove into the box before cutting the ball back to Watts, who had a relatively simple task to fire into the net left-footed.
Before play restarted after that goal, Watts and Kane were replaced by Jamie Paterson and Wiredu respectively in Argyle’s first substitutions of the game.
Hazard was called into action for the first time when he made an athletic stop from Leighton Clarkson’s fierce strike, and the follow-up attempt from Reuell Walters went into the side netting.
Argyle then had another good chance as Curtis curled in a corner and Harding forced a diving save out of Peacock-Farrell.
There were two more changes from Argyle in the 71st minute as Pepple and Edwards were replaced by Xavier Amechi and Jack MacKenzie, with the next away game coming up as soon as Tuesday night against Leyton Orient.
McKenzie slotted in at left-back as he made just his second appearance for Argyle and Harding moved across to right-back.
Argyle’s final substitution came soon afterwards as Ibrahim made his comeback from an ankle injury which had kept him out of action since mid-November when he replaced Curtis in the 78th minute.
Ex-Argyle striker Niall Ennis was sent on by Blackpool for Fletcher at the same time and he fired one shot over the bar soon after coming onto the pitch.
A miserable afternoon for Blackpool got even worse when their captain James Husband was shown a straight red card in the 88th minute after retaliating when Amaechi slid in for a challenge and fouled him, with the Pilgrims’ substitute also getting booked.
Hazard made one late stop from a Bloxham shot in added time as Argyle kept a clean sheet and recorded their seventh away league win of the campaign.
