Crysencio Summerville drew praise from Burton manager Gary Bowyer after sealing a tight West Ham United victory in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Summerville continued his fine form for West Ham United by stepping up and scoring a fine individual goal against Burton. It was a brilliant run, upon which he jinked past his marker, cut inside and rifled a shot into the roof of the net.

It was the Dutchman’s sixth strike of the season and the second time he’s proved a Hammers hero in this year’s competition thus far.

Summerville, after all, scored against QPR in the third-round last month before assisting Taty Castellanos for the late winner in brilliant fashion.

Speaking after the game, Bowyer revealed that he’d showed his players that the former Leeds star was capable of doing exactly that. Still, such is his level of quality, the Burton defenders could do little to stop him.

A proud-looking Bowyer appeared to admit there was little anyone could do about it when he told TNT Sports: “He’s a wonderful player. We’d shown the boys what he’s capable of doing and he did exactly that.

“He’s a talented footballer.”

Obviously, the fact that the Hammers were playing a team battling relegation in League One does need to be taken into account.

However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side needed imagination and ingenuity when they turned to Summerville in the 83rd minute. Unsurprisingly, that’s exactly what they got.

As per FotMob data, he won three of his four ground duels, while completing 15/17 (88%) of his passes.

Summerville could have wrapped the game up before the full-time whistle came but missed a great chance deep into extra-time.

Still, it would not be too much to say that West Ham’s win over Burton was solely down to Summerville.

How much is a trophy worth? Would you take relegation if it meant winning the FA Cup? 🏆

Summerville continues to shine for West Ham and, if they are to stay up while making further progress in the FA Cup, he will be a big reason for it.

After the game, the West Ham head coach spoke of his player’s ability in tight situations.

Nuno hailed Summerville for his goal against Burton, saying: “He’s in a good moment. Forward players need this confidence, and he has that one-v-one [ability]. When he can use it in [these kinds of] spaces, he’s almost unstoppable.”

It is difficult to see how West Ham operate without him.
