Rugby fans were left bemused when the match referee suspended the third Wallabies game against the British and Irish Lions for lightning strikes on Saturday night. It did put a slight dampener on the Wallabies eventual victory. But at least there were some delightful images of Poms glad-wrapped like sodden ham sambos.
The same can’t be said for the VIPs, covered in blankets in corporate boxes snacking on meat pies. Former prime minister John Howard led the charge, the perennial attender this rugby season (and yet still no ’99 trackies). Governor-General Sam Mostyn was the top dignitary at the official reception. Our spies also caught one of her predecessors, Peter Cosgrove.
