Former Washington football player Tre Johnson died Sunday morning while on a family trip. He was just 54 years old.
Johnson played for Washington from 1994 to 2001 as an offensive guard before playing a single season with the Cleveland Browns.
He played college football at Temple University. Johnson was drafted in the second round in 1994 and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 1999.

After retirement, he found his second career passion in education, working as a teacher at the Landon School in Bethesda. Recent health battles had forced him to take a leave of absence.
Johnson also was part of the News4 family; his wife, Irene Johnson, worked as a photographer at News4 for 12 years.
He leaves behind Irene and four children: Chloe, EJ, EZ, and Eden.
