Winter conditions are expected to intensify across parts of Ontario this week, bringing snow, reduced visibility and periods of freezing rain that could create treacherous travel conditions.

According to Environment Canada, southern regions — including Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, Hamilton, Durham and Niagara — are under a special weather statement, with hazardous winter conditions expected Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Snowfall amounts of 5 to 15 cm are possible, along with reduced visibility in local blowing snow and wind gusts up to 50 km/h.

The weather agency warns that roads and walkways may become difficult to navigate, and travel delays are possible. Some road closures may occur, and residents are advised to allow extra time for travel.
