A man found dead in a house in Co Tipperary has been named locally as bus driver Ian Walsh.

His body was discovered in a house in Carrick-On-Suir on Monday.

The former Irish Rail worker was fatally stabbed, it is suspected.

Gardaí have launched an investigation and house to house enquiries are being conducted.

Gardaí said that at around 3.30am, emergency services were alerted after a male in his 40s was found unresponsive at a Carrick-On-Suir residence.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

The scene was preserved for technical examination. The coroner was notified and an autopsy was being arranged.

Gardaí said they are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery and have issued an appeal for witnesses.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information related to the incident to come forward, including any road users who were in the area of Cregg Road, Carrick-On-Suir, Co Tipperary, between 8pm on Friday, August 1 and 3.30am on Monday, August 4.

Additionally, anyone who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and was travelling in the area at the time is asked to make it available to gardaí.
