Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was recently linked with a shock move to Manchester United, prompting a response from the Argentina star’s dad.
One of the biggest tasks facing Manchester United in 2026 is revamping the midfield, which has been made more difficult following Casemiro’s exit announcement.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is understood to be United’s primary midfield target, but the Red Devils could be required to sign more than one midfielder to take the team to the next level.
Fellow United target Carlos Baleba has struggled of late in the Premier League, but Brighton rejected a proposal from the Red Devils in January because they are holding out until the summer.

After signing no players in the January transfer window, Carrick must make the most of the midfield options he has available to him, which he has done thus far by reintroducing Kobbie Mainoo to the line-up.
United have until the summer to decide what midfielders they want to target and prioritise when the transfer window opens.

The lack of fixtures for United has resulted in some bizarre headlines in recent days.
Jurgen Klopp’s agent suggested there was an approach from United for the German coach, which has since been denied, as per Sky Sports News, and Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister re-emerged as a United target.
United were linked with Mac Allister in 2023, but the Argentine joined Liverpool from Brighton in a transfer worth £35 million.
Mac Allister has since won the Premier League at Liverpool and become a key member of the team. A move to United would certainly prove unpopular with Scousers, although it seems very unlikely at this stage.
The Liverpool star’s dad has played down reports linking his son with a move to United, insisting that the midfielder is waiting to be offered a new contract at Liverpool.
“Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool at the moment,” Carlos Mac Allister told WinWin.
“We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club’s plan is.”
When asked whether he would consider a move to anywhere other than Spain, where he has been previously linked with a move to Real Madrid, Carlos added: “We’ll wait and see what happens with the renewal. That’s all.”

Mac Allister, 27, has a contract at Liverpool that expires in 2028. It seems his father is keeping his cards close to his chest while remaining respectful to his son’s present club.
Alexis Mac Allister record against Man Utd
Mac Allister has played against United on 13 occasions during his time at Brighton and Liverpool.
United were victorious in seven of those matches, with Mac Allister winning just four.
The Argentina international also scored two goals and registered one assist in those matches.
Mac Allister has lost both of his FA Cup ties against United, including a semi-final on penalties during his time at Brighton.
