On Monday February 16th, 2026, at approximately 8:47 p.m., Hamilton Emergency Services were called to the area of York Boulevard and Old Guelph Road for a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.

A 25-year-old male was transported to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. Tragically, he has since succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Our thoughts remain with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

Preliminary investigation has determined that there was an interaction between two vehicles travelling eastbound on York Boulevard, west of Plains Road West, which resulted in both vehicles pulling over. An occupant from one of the vehicles exited to speak with the other involved driver.

It is alleged that as the second driver attempted to leave the area, the pedestrian was struck. The driver fled the scene and later contacted police.

The driver of the motor vehicle, a 29-year-old male from Burlington, has been charged with the following offences:

320.13(3) – Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death320.16(3) – Failure to Stop After a Collision Causing Death

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit has carriage of the investigation. York Boulevard was closed between Old Guelph Road and Plains Road West for several hours while investigators examined the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police are actively seeking any potential witnesses and are asking motorists who were in the area at the time to review their dash camera footage. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-546-4753.
