One person is in the care of the BC Ambulance Service after a ferry hit rocks in waters just off the coast of West Vancouver.
The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre says it heard a mayday distress call from the Harbour Princess — a ferry boat operated by Harbour Cruises Ltd. — at around 11:30 Sunday morning after the boat ran aground near Point Atkinson.
The rescue centre says it dispatched emergency services, including a Coast Guard aircraft, a hovercraft and two other boats to the scene.
It says one person was transported by aircraft into the care of the BC Ambulance Service and that it believes one other person sustained minor injuries.
The JRCC says the Harbour Princess was escorted back into Vancouver’s harbour under its own power and has returned to its Coal Harbour berth.
Officials did not say how many people were on board, but Harbour Cruises’ website says the Harbour Princess can seat 180 passengers for dinner, or has a standing capacity of 275.
