World leaders and national delegations are in Washington DC today for the inaugural meeting of Donald Trump’s Board of Peace.

Initially intended to oversee post-conflict Gaza, the board’s mandate has since been widened by Trump to include responding to other global conflicts.
Nonetheless, the US president says countries have already pledged more than $5bn towards rebuilding Gaza, which has been devastated in the war with Israel and remains in a humanitarian crisis.
Expectations are limited in the Middle East, where the 100-day peace and recovery plan announced by Jared Kushner, the US president’s son-in-law and envoy, in Davos has stalled.
The project has faced criticism, too. The leaders of key US allies, including the UK, Germany and France, have said they won’t join, citing concerns about Russian involvement.
Pope Leo said the Vatican would also not join the board, which critics have said is an attempt to usurp authority from other major international organisations, including the UN, which Trump has repeatedly criticised as not being fit for purpose.
Kushner unveiled Washington’s plans for Gaza’s reconstruction at the World Economic Forum in Davos last month, complete with skyscrapers and housing estates.

Trump himself later declared: “I’m a real estate person at heart and it’s all about location… look at this beautiful piece of property. What it could be for so many people.”
So what is the “master plan” for Gaza?Â
