Prime Minister Mark Carney has had a busy schedule during his ongoing visit to Metro Vancouver, but he took a time out to watch the Canadian women’s hockey team take on the United States in the gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

White Spot Restaurants shared photos of Carney along with Burnaby Central MP Wade Chang and New Westminster and Burnaby MP Jake Sawatzky at the Metrotown location for the big game.

And while the heartbreaking results weren’t exactly what the team or fans had hoped for, the made-in-B.C. restaurant chain proclaimed they were proud of all that Canada’s women had accomplished.

“What a game! We are so proud of our Canadian Women’s Hockey team,” said White Spot in a social media post about Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit.

“Thanks for choosing our spot for this Legendary meal and viewing party!”

Carney also shared his congratulations to the team on X, declaring he was “nothing but proud.”

One commenter on White Spot’s post shared that Carney’s support of women’s sports was inspiring.

“I adore that our PM is truly invested in watching women’s sports,” said a person on Instagram.

Though the end result is a disappointing one, it was an admirable effort for the Canadian team, who were considered major underdogs coming into this gold medal final.

“I think tonight was our best game, which is exactly what you’re hoping for at the Olympics,” said Canadian forward Blayre Turnbull. “Obviously, the result is not at all what we wanted, but I’m really proud of how we showed up and how we played.”

Carney also recently celebrated Lunar New Year at a much-loved Richmond restaurant.

“Stopped by the Continental Seafood Restaurant, a local staple here in Richmond, to celebrate Lunar New Year with the community,” wrote Carney on Instagram with a video of him visiting the restaurant.

In the video, Carney is seen handing out red envelopes to members of the community. He also remarked on how great the space looked and asked if customers had already eaten.
