The bodies of two elderly residents have been found at their property in Ilkeston after a suspected gas leak.

Derbyshire Police have confirmed the heartbreaking discovery that a married couple – an 89-year-old man and a 90-year-old woman – were tragically found dead at their residence on Friday morning.

“Officers were called to reports that a couple had been found unconscious following a suspected gas leak at a house in The Spinney, Ilkeston, just after 10.10am today,” police confirmed.

“At the scene a married couple, a man, 89, and a woman, 90, were found but were pronounced dead by the ambulance service.

“Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service made the area safe, and after the property was ventilated, officers were able to carry out an initial review of the circumstances in which the couple died.”

“A file is being prepared for the coroner and further enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of the gas leak.”
