Neil Lennon has slammed the Celtic supporters for their treatment of Kasper Schmeichel in the defeat to Stuttgart.
The Europa League is all but over for Celtic after the Stuttgart humbling, but it was the treatment of Kasper Schmeichel that particularly irked Lennon.
Speaking after the match, Lennon hit out at the Celtic support and slammed the booing of Schmeichel as the former Parkhead boss said ‘it’s not the Celtic way’.

Lennon said on TNT Sports, “Yeah, it’s bitterly disappointing. It’s not the Celtic way.
“I’ve been associated with the club since, on and off, since 2000, and I’ve never seen supporters treat a player who has distinguished the club, won trophies and played in Europe and had a great career over the years.
“He had a bad night, and maybe he’s had a bad couple of nights, but still doesn’t warrant that sort of treatment.
“So I’m really disappointed.”
Is Kasper Schmeichel’s Celtic career over?
Schmeichel has put in some good performances for Celtic and against the likes of Feyenoord, the big Dane was immense.
The Celtic number one has saved the team on a number of occasions this season and last, but it looks like Schmeichel’s time at the club is over after this season.
However, for now, he still has a part to play in Celtic’s quest to retain the title. Schmeichel is a big voice in the dressing room and is also a leader.
While he is still at Celtic, Kasper needs taken out of the team short-term, but kept involved in the title race longer term.
Celtic’s Kasper Schmeichel Catch 22
Viljami Sinisalo seems the obvious choice but two spells under O’Neill, a brief Wilfried Nancy tenure and before Brendan Rodgers left, the young Finn has barely been used.
So that leaves Celtic with the lesser-spotted Ross Doohan. The goalkeeper who left Celtic and spent much of his time in the lower leagues of English football.
Doohan is not the answer either, so it’s all down to Schmeichel. The vicious circle that has been created due to poor squad management is leaving the big Dane to hang out to dry.
