Rangers and manager Danny Rohl have suffered a huge injury blow ahead of their Old Firm double-header against Celtic at Ibrox next month, with Dujon Sterling suffering an injury setback that is set to keep him out for weeks.

Rangers are currently involved in a fierce Scottish Premiership title battle with leaders Hearts and arch-rivals Celtic, and the German coach would have loved to have a fully fit squad to pick from for the clash against Livingston at the weekend, and beyond.

However, the 36-year-old will be forced into at least one change for Gers’ visit to the Almondvale Stadium on Sunday following the injury to Sterling, and it could be more.

Rangers’ Mystery Injury Victim Revealed as Sterling

Dujon Sterling

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Livingston, Rangers boss Rohl revealed that an unnamed player had suffered an injury and is set to be out for 2-3 weeks, with other issues present too.

He said:

“We have to change some players. Well, I don’t want to, I have to. There’s small injuries, but I cannot go into too much detail today, but you will see, I think on Sunday.

“I think one player will be two or three weeks. And the other one is doubtful for Sunday, we have to make a decision. Let’s see, it could be two or three changes for the weekend.”

Now, the Daily Record has confirmed that the mystery player is Sterling, who was replaced in the 58th minute by club captain James Tavernier in the vital 4-2 win against Hearts last weekend.

Should the ‘special’ 26-year-old be missing for three weeks, he is likely to miss both the Old Firm games against Celtic at Ibrox, the first of which comes next weekend before they clash again in the Scottish Cup a week later.

It’s a blow for the player as well as the club, with Sterling making just 10 appearances after returning from an Achilles tendon rupture which sidelined him for eight months.

As Rohl confirmed in his pre-match press conference, he could be forced to make 2-3 changes to the side that boosted Rangers’ hopes of winning the Scottish Premiership title.

Sterling’s absence appears to be confirmed, while the Daily Record also claim that there are doubts over new forward Ryan Naderi, who sat out training on Friday.

However, the German centre-forward could be available to face Livingston, unlike Sterling.
