Canada just evened their score against the United States in team medal events at the Olympics.
Just days after the United States beat Canada in the women’s gold medal hockey game, Rachel Homan and Canada’s curling team defeated the USA in Saturday’s bronze medal match.
Eight days earlier, the United States defeated Canada 10-9 in round robin play. That kicked off a three-game losing streak for Canada.
During the last contest of that three-game skid, Homan was accused of double-touching the rock, something that became a major story in Canadian curling after Marc Kennedy’s tirade in the men’s competition.
Homan clapped back at herself, completely disagreeing with the double-touching call.
After that incident against Switzerland, where Canada had a 1-3 record, Canada went on a tear. They won five straight matches in order to qualify for the semi-finals yesterday, where they narrowly lost to Sweden.
That set up a bronze medal match against the United States. Homan and Canada held a narrow lead throughout, and they were able to hang on at the end for a 10-7 victory.
Each team was trading single-point ends up until the sixth, with the USA leading 3-2. That’s when Canada posted three points to take a 5-3 lead.
HUGE 3 for @TeamHoman in the 6th end 🥌

They wouldn’t trail at any point after that.
“I’m just so proud of the team and how hard we fought,” Homan said after the win.
“There were struggles early, but it didn’t matter, and i couldnt be more proud of our fans. to bring a bronze medal home for Canada, there’s no better feeling.”
“We hope that it shows to never give up and take it one shot at a time,” Homan said. “When you stick together as a team, you just never know what happens.”
At 36-years-old, this is Homan’s first medal at the Olympics. The same goes for her longtime partner and childhood friend, Emma Miskew. Sarah Wilkes and Tracy Fleury were the other medal-winning members of the squad.
