CHICAGO (WLS) — A teenager and a man are facing charges in connection with a deadly carjacking spree that happened earlier this month, Chicago police said.

Police said Marquese Hill, an 18-year-old Chicago man, and 17-year-old Marshawn Sanders, who is now being charged as an adult in the case, were arrested on Thursday. Both will now remain behind bars until trial.

The suspects are both charged with first-degree murder, as well as felony vehicular hijacking and gun charges, CPD said.

Police have not released the 17-year-old’s name, because he is a minor. However, he is not being charged as an adult in the case, prosecutors said in court Saturday.

The two allegedly carried out two murders and multiple carjackings on Wednesday, Feb. 11. Prosecutors allege that the two teenagers were seen on surveillance cameras across the city.

Police said it all started when the suspects carjacked and fatally shot a man in the Lakeview neighborhood’s 700-block of West Waveland just before 4 a.m.

Darwin Tirado, 22, was the man shot and killed, family members say. Another man inside the car, a 38-year-old, was not injured.

Less than one hour later, the suspects shot and killed 45-year-old Damon Kellum in the Oakland neighborhood’s 3700-block of South Lake Park Avenue, officials said.

Near that scene, authorities found a vehicle that matched the description of the one stolen in Lakeview.

Police said the suspects also tried to take a vehicle at gunpoint from a 70-year-old man in the Fuller Park neighborhood’s 4200-block of South Wentworth Avenue.

The suspects then carjacked a 38-year-old man in the West Chatham neighborhood’s 8600-block of South Lafayette Avenue just before 5:15 a.m., police said.

Police said Hill is also charged in connection with a Jan. 10 carjacking. It happened in the West Rogers Park neighborhood’s 7500-block of North Claremont Avenue around 4 a.m.

On Saturday, a judge ruled that both Hill and Sanders are a danger to the community, ordering the teenagers to remain in jail until trial.
