After joining the army eight years ago, Wilde was with the Welsh Guards until Christmas before moving to the Royal Yorkshire Regiment.

In a lengthy tribute, the Welsh Guards said she had “a rare ability to lift those around her” and her loss would be felt “across the Battalion and far beyond”.

Her former regiment highlighted her bravery when attending to an overturned vehicle in the Falklands that left multiple Welsh Guards injured – which won her a commendation award.

“Lucy was first on the scene and worked relentlessly to treat casualties and ensure every Guardsman was accounted for and safe,” the regiment said.

“Her actions that day were nothing short of outstanding, and she was rightly commended for her courage and professionalism.”
