Ed Still praised Watford’s defence for how they handled Patrick Agyemang as they overcame Derby County.

The Hornets sealed a 2-0 win to give Still his first win since being appointed as Javi Gracia’s successor, as goals from Luca Kjerrumgaard and Mamadou Doumbia earned all three points.

Derby offered little in the way of goal threat with American striker Agyemang being kept quiet as the Rams toiled in the final third.

The American had scored four goals in his last six games and clearly his reputation is getting around.

Still said: “You need your backline and how James Abankwah and Saba Goglichidze dealt with their striker today was fantastic.

“He’s one of the toughest opponents to come up against in the Championship and they did fantastically.”

Still was thrilled with the backing of the fans for what was his first home game in charge with the win putting them level with eighth-placed Derby in the league table.

“It was special to be able to give the fans something to cheer about,” added Still.

“We felt the energy and the support from kick-off and all the way to the end.

“To be able to send everyone home happy and hopeful for the coming weeks is great.

“We saw a team that is slowly coming together and connecting again.

“Not just as footballers, but as people as well.

“That is massive and something we’ve put so much energy into from day one, just making sure everyone in the building is together.

“That is the non-negotiable that we need to create something that is strong and positive.”
