A pedestrian was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in North York on Saturday night.

Toronto police say a call came in at 8:13 p.m. for a collision in the area of Yonge Street and Wedgewood Drive, south of Steeles Avenue.

In a news release, they say a 48-year-old woman was operating a BMW SUV northbound on Yonge Street at the same that that a adult female pedestrian was crossing Yonge from the west side to the east side.

The driver hit the pedestrian as she was was crossing the street, police say.

The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The driver, meanwhile, remained at the scene.

Traffic Services is investigating.

Toronto police are asking local residents, businesses, and drivers, who may have security or dashcam footage of the area or incident, to contact them at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
