The Blues twice equalised in the first half and led 3-2 soon after the break, but the North Wales hosts went on to score more three times to climb back into the Championship play-off places.
“I think you’ve got to understand that performance today,” said a beaming Parkinson.
“I didn’t want to make too big a thing of this beforehand, but we went to Bristol on Tuesday and we played Ipswich today who didn’t have a midweek game having completely changed their team on the Friday (for an FA Cup defeat at Wrexham).
“I think if the bookies would have put all the factors together – Ipswich, 10 changes, freshness – they’d probably have been favourites. And we’ve overturned that with sheer commitment, honesty and endeavour.
“They’re a really good side and have one of the best young managers in the country. I said to the lads before the game, ‘What an opportunity this is against a team who were in the Premiership last year. We know, tactically, what we’ve got to do with the ball and without it. Now can we execute that game plan?’ I think we did that really well.
“When the centre-half (Cedric Kipre) smashes in to make it 3-2, I think with a lesser group of players would have let a bit of fatigue creep into them mentally.
“But we didn’t, we responded brilliantly and the subs obviously impacted when we needed them the most.
“The magnitude of the effort and the commitment the lads have given us today… If ever there was a game our supporters should be proud of their team, it was today.”

Former Town loan striker Kieffer Moore opened the scored with a thumping angled finish and proved a handful throughout.
“I thought Kieffer was back to his best today,” enthused Parkinson. “I thought he was unplayable, particularly in the first half.
“He made balls his which weren’t his. He goes and blocks a ball up the line at 4-3 and gets a big cheer for that commitment. Sometimes all those bits and pieces around the football pitch add up.”
Wrexham had penalty appeals turned down in the second half when Town keeper Christian Walton missed a punch at a corner, his fists clattering into Callum Doyle’s head. Referee Leigh Doughty decided the ball had already gone over.

“I don’t think you’re going to see a more blatant penalty than that,” said Parkinson. “Doyle is very lucky that he wasn’t knocked clean out in that moment. It was an absolutely reckless challenge.
“The ref’s got his own interpretation of it, I’ve already had a chat with him, but you can’t believe that the linesman and the ref between them haven’t given that penalty. Credit to Doyle because he’s got up and then gone on and scored the goal.”
There have been goals galore at the Racecourse Ground this season, with this the second time that Wrexham have come from behind to win 5-3 on home soil following on from a Boxing Day victory against Sheffield United.

“Obviously, I’d like a little bit less goalmouth action at our end today, but sometimes it’s a trade-off, isn’t it?” said Parkinson. “If you’ve got your wing-backs high and wide at times, you’re going to be a bit vulnerable.
“We’ve played to set the team up to attack. We felt that Ipswich had vulnerabilities and we’ve exploited them today. And that was against the team with the best defensive record in the division before today.
“I think they know they’ve been in the game today. We say that a lot to the lads. Opposition defenders have got to know they’ve been in a tough game and, through Kieffer alone, I thought he gave them a really, really difficult afternoon.”
