With three Championship away wins on the bounce it feels like Birmingham City have finally cracked it.

They could barely buy an away victory before Christmas and, at points, were positioned at the bottom of the away league table – even below already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday.

Now, buoyed by three straight wins on the road in the Championship for the first time since 2015, Blues’ record is ordinary. And that’s all it has to be, because their home record in verging on extraordinary.

So, have Blues cracked it away from St Andrew’s?

“God no,” responded Chris Davies. “No, but it’s really pleasing that we’ve improved our away form because that was the question. I say question but it was more a narrative that was building, I wasn’t too concerned about it but I knew it would keep building.

“It was important to put that to bed and I think we did that a few weeks ago, but beating Norwich was a big one.

“Norwich have been flying. They’ve been in really good form and were a completely different animal to the Norwich we faced when we played them at our place.”

Norwich were flying, but their home record is among the worst in the Championship. Millwall are a different proposition.

The Lions have the seventh best home record in the Championship – nine victories in 17 games – and The Den isn’t exactly a place where rival teams relish visiting.

Alex Neil has built a Millwall side that mirrors the club; gritty, determined and happy to fight for three points.

They sit third in the Championship at present, six points behind the automatic promotion places, but only seven points ahead of seventh-placed Blues.

There was a gulf between Millwall and Blues when the two teams met at St Andrew’s back in November. It ended in a 4-0 victory for Blues and that flattered Millwall.

In their defence, the Lions were depleted that night due to injuries and they will be out to avenge that defeat.

But Blues, beefed up by six new signings in January, are the Championship’s form team and no longer a soft touch on the road.
