Horror CCTV has revealed the moment a man had his motorbike stolen from him by three machete-waving thugs at a set of traffic lights in Prestwich.

Police were called to the incident on Bury New Road at around 6pm on Tuesday (February 24) following reports of males armed with machetes. The incident involved a delivery rider who had stopped at red traffic lights outside the Wallop bar.

Footage shared with the Manchester Evening News show the moment he is surrounded by suspects, one of which is shown clearly waving the large blade, before pushing him off the vehicle and making off with it.

Horrified witnesses can be seen watching on and calling for help. Traffic cops attended and arrested three boys, aged between 13 and 16, on suspicion of robbery.

The motorbike was located a short while later by helicopter and the vehicle was brought to a stop. Four machetes were also recovered. The suspects all remain in custody to be questioned over the incident.

Detective Inspector Hayley Howarth, knife crime lead for GMP’s Bury district, said: “The swift actions of our officers demonstrates how we are committed to removing weapons from our streets and protecting lives.

“There’s no place for weapons on our streets and we will not tolerate any such offences. Our communities deserve to go about their lives without fear ensured that we are keeping them safe.”
