Will he or won’t he waive?

That is the question.

However, one of the answers appears to be that he won’t waive his no-movement clause to join the Detroit Red Wings.

We’ve now learned that Detroit has stepped up with an offer that the Vancouver Canucks like most for Myers.

However, other teams are circling to see if they can land the veteran defenceman.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman hopped on The FAN Hockey Show on Thursday to shed more insight into the Myers trade saga.

“It was pretty obvious last night that, as things developed, Vancouver had something legitimate, but it wasn’t something that Myers was crazy about,” Friedman said.

“I don’t know where this is gonna go, specifically with the Red Wings, but there were people last night who felt it was unlikely.”

If Friedman is correct, it’s hard to blame Myers on this one.

The 36-year-old resides in Kelowna during the offseason with his wife and three kids. If he was going to accept a trade to another team, you’d think he’d either want to stay as close to Vancouver as possible or go to a team with legitimate Stanley Cup aspirations.

Detroit doesn’t really seem to check either of those boxes.

But, as Friedman alluded to, perhaps this developing trade saga allowed other teams to get into the mix.

“I said a few months ago that if Myers was available, there would be a lot of interest,” Friedman explained. “And I was told at the time he’s not going anywhere in season.”

“I think what he’s probably considering is, number one, does anybody else step up and get involved?”

Some of the other rumoured contenders could be more appealing to Myers. The Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, and Anaheim Ducks have all been rumoured to be in the mix.

The Avalanche are arguably Stanley Cup favourites ahead of the playoffs, while Anaheim is the closest geographically.

However, it’s easy to see Dallas as Myers’s preferred destination if he is going to move. His mom currently lives there, and the Stars are legitimate contenders.
