Even after he was shown mobile phone footage of the sexual assault, Rana Jahangir protested his innocence

Rana Jahangir

A delivery driver from Manchester sexually assaulted a customer on her doorstep after delivering her food, a court heard. Rana Jahangir grabbed the woman from behind and started hugging her and kissing her, police said.

Despite repeated requests for him to stop, the assault continued for over a minute. Initially the woman complained to the delivery company, but didn’t report the attack to police.

But after speaking with friends she later contacted police and Jahangir, of Collington Close, Longsight, was arrested. The 25-year-old initially claimed the attack, which took place on Shipbrook Road in Rudheath, Cheshire, in September last year, was consensual.

Unbeknown to him, part of it had been recorded on a mobile phone. But even after he was shown the footage, Jahangir continued to plead his innocence and denied a charge of sexual assault when he was put on trial.

Today, following a trial at Chester Crown Court, he was found guilty and jailed for two years and four months. He has also been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years and given a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.

Speaking after the case Det Con Sarah Ollier, said: “Even when we presented him with the mobile phone footage, he continued to deny the allegations, claiming that the victim had set him up. Thankfully, the jury saw through his lies, and he has been held accountable for his actions.

“I welcome the sentenced handed to Jahangir and I hope that it provides some reassurance to the victim. We will continue to do all we can to tackle any incident of violence against women and take all reports of such crimes extremely seriously and will investigate thoroughly to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”
