Authorities say a suspect returned twice to the same retail location on August 3rd, escalating tensions that led to multiple criminal charges

Witnesses helped detain an agitated man who police say attacked employees and caused damage during two separate visits to the same business on Sunday.

A local man has been charged in connection with a violent incident at a McKeown Avenue retailer involving multiple assaults, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, theft, and mischief.

On Sunday, August 3, at 3:15 p.m., a man went into the store while two employees were outside the building.

Police say he became agitated during an argument regarding store services. He then chased one of the employees into the store and assaulted them before the victim fled the scene. The man then stole merchandise and ran after the victim in a brief pursuit before returning. Upon returning to the store, the second employee had locked the door, prompting the man to forcibly break a window before fleeing the scene prior to police arrival.

The man returned a second time, later in the day, and was again denied entry.

Police say he became agitated, stole a tool from a commercial vehicle located at the retailer, and threatened to use the tool as a weapon. He then assaulted another individual who tried to intervene. Witnesses were able to detain him until North Bay Police officers arrived.

Aiden Southwind, 25, of North Bay, has been charged with:

Two counts of assault
Theft under $5,000
Mischief under $5,000
Assault with a Weapon
Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

Southwind was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
