Elliot Anderson scored a scrumptious goal as Nottingham Forest stunned Manchester City to claim an important point for Vitor Pereira’s team.

Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring, with Morgan Gibbs-White equalising in the second half.

Rodri headed City back into the lead after some poor marking from a set-piece, before Anderson struck with a long-range effort that left Gianluigi Donnarumma absolutely stranded.

Who was your Man of the Match vs Manchester City?

Forest have kept their heads above the relegation parapet after West Ham won at Fulham to pull them level on points with the Reds.

After the game, it was Anderson who got the plaudits, and he left Micah Richards and Danny Murphy stunned with his superb goal.

Gibbs-White scored a superb goal for Forest after half-time, and later in the piece, Anderson trumped his teammate with a superb curling effort from distance.

On Match of the Day 2, Richards and Murphy summed up the two goals with a very glowing assessment of the two Forest stars.

Richards said: “Look at this for a finish. To have the tenacity to do that past Donnarumma as well was just brilliant and if you think that goal was good, this one was even better, Anderson gets that little bit of space and he plays a wonderful one-two here and City just can’t deal with it and he just finishes using Guehi to bend it round and into the net.”

Murphy concurred with Richards and added: “The Elliot Anderson goal, it’s worth saying, it’s not how precise it is but it’s the pace as well. You are still shooting outside the box against one of the world’s best goalkeepers who is massive, the whip as well as the accuracy makes it just brilliant.”

Anderson now needs to get more goals and assists

For a player boasting such quality and a reported £100 million price tag ahead of the summer, Anderson does need to do more when it comes to goal contributions.

With the World Cup due in the summer, Thomas Tuchel is already impressed with Anderson, but it’s fair to say he’d be even more valuable to England if he could assist and score more often.

Which of the two players has been better this season? Anderson or Gibbs-White?

Let us know in the comments below…

Anderson is a star in the making, and this was a timely performance from a Forest perspective.

Now, the challenge for the Geordie is to stay on the goal trail and ensure that more points are collected between now and the end of the season.
