Toronto police are investigating after a pedestrian was killed after a vehicle knocked down a pole in North York on Friday night.

A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a pole that was knocked down by a vehicle in North York on Friday night.

Toronto police say they were initially called to Gerry Fitzgerald Drive and Steeles Avenue West, west of Dufferin Street, around 6:43 p.m. for a two-vehicle collision.

It resulted in one vehicle crashing into a pole, which then fell and hit a pedestrian, police say.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say one of the drivers involved in the collision fled the scene.
