A man has been charged in connection with a serious assault on a woman in her 40s in the Community Park in Muirhevnamor Dundalk, on the evening of Friday, August 1.
Gardai have confirmed that as part of their investigations into the incident, a man in his 40s was arrested and appeared before a special sitting of Dundalk District Court on Monday, August 4.
A bail application was objected to by investigating Gardai and the suspect was remanded in custody to appear before Dundalk District Court via video link on Wednesday.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “The Detective Unit in Dundalk are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding an assault on a female in her 40s, which took place in the Park in Muirhevnamor on the evening of Friday August 1st, at 6pm.
“Whilst significant progress has been made in this investigation, we are still urging any witnesses who may be in a position to further help with the investigation to come forward.
“In particular, we would like to speak to persons walking in the Community Park between 5pm and 6.30pm, as well as motorists on Hoey’s Lane, or in the vicinity of the Sports Centre in Muirhevnamor at this time.
They appealed for anyone with information or footage that they believe could assist the investigation, to get in contact with Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9388400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or by calling to their local Garda station.
