Ice jam in Ausable River

  • March 8, 2026

AU SABLE FORKS, N.Y. (WCAX) – An ice jam has developed in the Ausable River.

We now have video sent to us from Kevin Zaumetzer as large chunks of ice passed under the Rolling Mill Hill Bridge in Au Sable Forks Sunday.

It was reported by the U.S. National Weather Service team based in Burlington. According to local officials, the jam was about two miles long and on the east branch of the river. Minor flooding occurred as a result of the ice jam Sunday afternoon.

Clinton County emergency managers said the jam in Au Sable Forks cleared by mid afternoon Sunday, but jams are still present on other parts of the river. They reported an ongoing ice jam in Clintonville and a secondary jam forming in Keeseville Village. Neither ice jam was causing flooding at the time of the update, but additional flooding could occur if ice shifts downstream in the coming hours and days.

Residents are asked to please be aware of any potential flooding and to stay away from the ice. Conditions could change rapidly.
