The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a recall alert for a number of potted coriander products and a hummus product due to concerns over potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall affects nine potted coriander products provided by O’Hanlon Herbs to a range of major supermarkets including Aldi, Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Lidl, Marks & Spencer and Supervalu.

A 150g pack of Tom & Ollie Traditional Hummus is also being recalled. It has a batch code VG189 and a use by date of August 8. Consumers are advised not to eat any of the implicated products.

The watchdog has requested that retailers remove the products from sale, and display recall notices at point-of-sale.

The FSAI said that symptoms of listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.

It comes after the recall of 141 different ready-made meals and side dishes sold in major retail supermarkets last month after listeria was detected.

Last week, eight more batches of spinach, mixed leaves, rocket and lettuce products were also recalled after traces of the bacteria listeria monocytogenes were detected.
