The Foreign Office has slapped 14 countries with a no travel – whatsoever – warning. The FCDO has 14 countries on its do not travel list – with UK tourists completely banned from heading there.
The list from the FCDO includes Afghanistan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Mali, Niger, Palestine, Russia, south Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
The warnings come amid conflict in the Middle East, Asia and Europe, with the FCDO saying of Afghanistan: “The security situation is volatile.” The FCDO adds of Belarus: “You face a significant risk of arrest.”

On Burkina Faso, the FCDO goes on to warn: “Due to the threat of terrorist attacks and terrorist kidnap.” On Haiti, it adds: “Due to the volatile security situation.” On Iran and Iraq, it says: “British nationals are at significant risk of arrest. Due to recent escalation in regional conflict.”
The warning for Israel and Palestine is due to “regional escalation” which poses significant security risks”, the FCDO says.
On Mali, it adds: “Due to unpredictable security conditions.” On Niger, the FCDO says: “Due to the rise of reported terrorist and criminal kidnappings.”
Russia tourists are warned: “Due to the risks and threats from its continuing invasion of Ukraine.” And South Sudan advice from the FCDO says: “Due to the risk of armed violence and criminality.”
“Ongoing conflict and unpredictable security conditions,” the Syria warning adds, while the Yemen advice says: “Unpredictable security conditions.”
Of 226 countries or territories with foreign travel advice pages, 76 are currently flagged as having no-go zones.
But 14 have no travel whatsoever for UK passengers. The FCDO has issued various travel warnings, including advice against “all travel” and “all but essential travel” to entire countries or parts of countries.
If you choose to make the journey against FCDO advice, travel insurance will be invalidated.
