The Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) would like to provide an update regarding the Sarnia Legionnaires.
Throughout this past season, the league worked in collaboration with the Sarnia organization to review operational matters involving the franchise. As with any responsible governance process, these matters required time and cooperation to ensure decisions were made in the best long-term interests of the team, its players, and the community.
Following this process, the GOHL confirms that the previous ownership group has now been reinstated with full operational control, returning the organization to the ownership structure that was in place during the 2024-25 season. The league and the ownership group have worked together to guide the team through a transition that positions the organization for renewed
stability and future success.
The league will now work with local stakeholders to reestablish the operational structure of the organization and prepare for a strong return next season, including a rebuilding process designed to ensure the long-term health and competitiveness of the team.
We would also like to thank the fans, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who stood behind the Legionnaires throughout a challenging season. Your patience and support have been greatly appreciated.
The GOHL remains proud to have the Sarnia Legionnaires as one of our 24 member franchises and looks forward to an exciting and positive new chapter for hockey in Sarnia.
Commissioner Craig Spada stated: “Sometimes the right decisions take time. By allowing the proper process to run its course, we have now positioned the Sarnia Legionnaires for stability and a strong future in the Greater Ontario Hockey League.”
