US president Donald Trump has praised actress Sydney Sweeney amid controversy over her American Eagle jeans advert, while also criticising musician Taylor Swift.
The ad features Sweeney in all denim, and plays on words implying she has good “jeans” and “genes”. This prompted huge criticism, with some people arguing the advert had an undertone of eugenics.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Mr Trump backed the Euphoria actress, while taking aim at Taylor Swift.

Mr Trump said the American Eagle promotion was the “hottest ad out there”. He said that American Eagle’s jeans were “flying off the shelves” and then said, “Go get ’em, Sydney!”
“Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift,” the post added. “Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.”

Multiple reports have claimed Sweeney is a registered Republican.
When this was put to Mr Trump by reporters, he replied: “”Now I love her ad.”
He added: “”You’d be surprised at how many people are Republicans.”
The show of support from the US president led to a surge in the stock value for American Eagle.
