Eastbound express lanes of Highway 401 have reopened at Keele Street after police concluded a sudden death investigation in the area, OPP say.

“Several hours ago we were called to a person in distress (that became) a sudden death investigation after she fell from the overpass,” OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt said in an update on social media.

Lanes had closed at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning as police dealt with the investigation.

In addition to the main closures, the ramp from the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 409 to the Hwy. 401’s eastbound express lanes were also blocked at the time.

Schmidt said although traffic is moving freely now that lanes have reopened, congestion is still expected in the area.

“It will take some time for the traffic to return to normal because of the congestion. There was heavy delays in both directions on the express and collectors.”
