A driver has smashed into a White House gate, triggering road closures around the complex in Washington DC just after 6.30am Wednesday.

The driver of the van was detained and is being questioned by US Secret Service.

No injuries were reported after the van drove through the barricade at Connecticut Avenue and H Street, Northwest, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

The incident comes amid a wave of attacks on US soil since Donald Trump launched the war against Iran.

Two alleged ISIS terrorists hurled improvised explosive devices at a protest outside the New York mayor’s mansion on Saturday.

The day after the first US strikes on Iran, an Islamist gunman opened fire at a bar in Austin killing three people and wounding 15 others.

Across the border in Canada, two gunmen opened fire on the US consulate in Toronto on Tuesday morning.

It comes as senior Trump officials including Attorney General Pam Bondi, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have all moved into secure military housing amid the escalating threat climate.
