A Rangers supporter arrested following an alleged attack on a Celtic player and coach during the Old Firm fan chaos has been axed from his role as a youth football coach.
The arrest of Marc Spence took place on the Ibrox pitch after the final whistle of Sunday’s Scottish Cup match. The 47-year-old from Douglas in Lanarkshire was among nine suspects arrested and charged at the game.
It has now been revealed that he has been chucked from his role at youth football side Glenbuck 2016s. A statement issued by the club said: “The coach is no longer part of the academy. We will not be commenting any further on this.”
The Hoops’ Scottish Cup quarter final victory over their bitter rivals was marred when fans spilled onto the pitch after striker Tomas Cvancara scored the winning penalty kick. Police Scotland confirmed nine arrests were made after dozens of travelling fans entered the pitch to celebrate Celtic’s victory and more than 100 Rangers supporters charged to confront them.
Police and stewards formed a barrier to prevent large-scale interaction, but there was violence and missiles, including a lit flare, were thrown. Several officers and members of the public were injured as objects, such as pyrotechnics, were thrown as well as a 10-year-old child being struck by a coin.
Spence was charged in connection with alleged assault. A 54-year-old man was charged in connection with a police assault.

Following the serious assault of a man on Helen Street post-match, three men, aged 54, 23 and 20, were charged in connection. All five are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.
The four other arrests were in relation to several offences including abuse towards officers and culpable and reckless conduct. The force also confirmed that vandalism and graffiti inside Ibrox is being investigated.
Police have slammed Rangers and Celtic saying neither have come forward to condemn disorder among fans. Police Scotland Chief Constable Jo Farrell spoke to MSPs today.

She said: “The events of Sunday afternoon were absolutely disgraceful, and I condemn the people involved in violence.
“Fans, families, friends, people working at the clubs, my officers do not go to work within that environment to witness or be on the receiving end of threats and violence. I think that there’s a point of reflection that at the same time policing was responding to those events, members of the public were injured, officers were injured.
“Lots of coverage in the media in relation to the events of Sunday afternoon, when we got to Monday evening, there was still no commentary from either of those clubs in respect of the violence that was witnessed. Nobody came out to condemn that violence.”
