RCMP have identified the victim as Emmanual ‘Manny’ Brooks. His photo and identity are being released in an effort to move the investigation forward.

Brooks was the subject of an RCMP news release in 2023. At the time, police said he was wanted on unendorsed warrants for theft under $5,000 and possession of a weapon while prohibited.

Urano says Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit investigators believe the incident was targeted. No arrests have been made as yet.

The entire 7-Eleven property was behind police tape for much of Wednesday morning. Urano says it has since been released, though investigators will still be in the area conducting follow-up.

“We are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who has information that could assist investigators, to please contact police,” said Staff Sgt. Kevin McIntyre in the release. “We are also interested in hearing from anyone with video surveillance or dash cam footage from the surrounding area during the early morning hours.”

Anyone with further information for RCMP is asked to call the Kamloops detachment at (250) 828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.

This is the second homicide of 2026 in Kamloops. Muhammad ‘Ash’ Zafar was found dead in his Dalgleish Drive home on January 5. Police have given no indication the two homicides are related.
