Calgary-based airline WestJet is facing a $70,000 fine from the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) after passengers on a cancelled flight were left without meals or accommodations.
The Feb. 16 flight, WS3103, from Calgary, Alta., to Nanaimo, B.C., affected dozens of passengers at the Calgary International Airport.
According to the CTA, 16 passengers who waited more than two hours past the scheduled departure of Flight WS3103, which was later cancelled, were not provided food or drinks in reasonable quantities.
In addition, the CTA says that 19 passengers who had to wait overnight were not offered hotels, other accommodations, or transportation to and from accommodations.Â

Both situations are violations of Canada’s Air Passenger Protection Regulations, which require airlines to provide affected passengers with meals, accommodations, and necessary transport when flights are delayed or cancelled.
The fine was issued to the airline on March 5, 2026.
Daily Hive reached out to WestJet for comment regarding the fine but did not hear back by the time of publication.Â
WestJet is also facing a separate legal challenge, with 3,500 female flight attendants currently taking the airline to court.
