Toronto police say they’ve recovered the vehicle suspects allegedly used in the U.S. consulate shooting early Tuesday morning.
A white Honda CR-V SUV was recovered “within hours” of the shooting near Queen Street W. and University Avenue, police said in an emailed statement.
The vehicle was stolen shortly before the shooting occurred, according to police.
Asked why news of the recovered vehicle wasn’t made public before Thursday, media relations officer Viktor Sarudi did not provide further details.
Two suspects remain outstanding, police say.
The shooting is believed to have happened at 4:29 a.m., Toronto police Deputy Chief Frank Barredo said at a conference Tuesday.
According to Barredo, the SUV was heading southbound on University Avenue when it stopped in front of the consulate. Two male suspects then got out and fired multiple rounds at the building with a handgun before getting back inside and continuing to drive southbound, he said.
RCMP and Toronto police officials said officers responded to reports that someone had shot at the consulate about an hour later, at 5:30 a.m.
People were believed to be inside the consulate at the time of the shooting, but it’s likely they didn’t even hear it because the building is heavily fortified, Barredo said.
