Toronto police say a man has been arrested after a voyeurism investigation involving hidden cameras placed inside a female washroom at a workplace in Whitby.
In a news release, authorities say officers began the investigation earlier this year on Jan. 9.
Police allege the accused, who worked as a custodian at a manufacturing facility in the Thickson Road and Tricont Avenue area, placed hidden cameras inside a female washroom at the workplace.
“The accused was found in possession of a media card containing hidden video and audio recordings taken inside the female washroom,” police said.
On Jan. 29, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the McCowan Road and Finch Avenue East area.
Police allege officers located numerous additional videos from the hidden cameras during the search.
As a result, 45-year-old Francis Ambas of Toronto, has been charged with 85 counts of voyeurism and possession of a schedule one substance.
He was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, on Jan. 30.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims who used the female washroom between April 4, 2022, and Jan. 29, 2026, and may have been recorded without their knowledge or consent.
