Cardiff City delivered the perfect response to a testing week with a commanding 4-0 victory over Exeter City in Devon.

Captain Rubin Colwill led by example with two goals in three first-half minutes before strikes from Alex Robertson and Callum Robinson wrapped up the points.

Nathan Trott 7

Had zero to do, but when the ball was at his feet he was as calm and composed as you’d like. Claimed the few balls that came into his area comfortably and produced a routine save late on. A quiet but professional afternoon.

Perry Ng 8

A first-class performance from the right-back. Excellent in defence and top in attack, too. Crashed a header against the crossbar in the first half and caused Exeter problems with his crossing.

Dylan Lawlor 7

A lot to like about his performance at Exeter. Looks to be growing each game, puffing the chest out and taking charge. Exeter struggled to get any joy through the middle.

Gabriel Osho 7

A little more chaotic next to the calm Lawlor, but another good display. Dealt comfortably with the aerial threat of Josh Magennis and made one excellent one-v-one intervention late on to halt a break.

Joel Bagan 7

Delivered some dangerous set-pieces and supported attacks effectively down the flank. Also did his defensive work diligently before being replaced late on.

Ryan Wintle 8

Bossed the game from the base of midfield. Was allowed to dictate play and grow into it, picking up pockets and always showing for his defenders. Lovely one-two with Robertson for his goal.

Alex Robertson 9

Another classy showing from the midfielder. Linked play brilliantly throughout and capped his performance with a stunning curling strike into the top corner. Constantly looked to play forward and drive the team on.

Rubin Colwill 9 (star man)

Smashed a sensational opening goal before guiding a header home three minutes later to double the lead. Cupped his ear as if to try and silence his nay-sayers. That’s three in two games for the skipper, who was brilliant.

Ollie Tanner 7

Lively and looked dangerous, adding another assist to his growing tally by setting up Colwill for his first. Some of his shooting opportunities went begging, if you were to nitpick.

Omari Kellyman 7

Provided Cardiff with a focal point off of which to play. Had a couple of promising moments around the box but lacked the decisive final touch. Still contributed to Cardiff’s fluid attacking play.

Cian Ashford 8

The architect of Colwill’s second, outpacing his marker before sticking a cross right on his head. Was a constant threat when running at defenders. Came close to scoring himself late on when he blazed over. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

David Turnbull (Robertson 70) 6 – Slotted into midfield comfortably. Helped maintain Cardiff’s control of possession in the closing stages.

Joel Colwill (R. Colwill 75) 6 – Added fresh energy in the final stages. Nearly grabbed a goal with a diving header and linked play well in the attacking third.

Callum Robinson (Kellyman 75) 7 – Took his chance when introduced from the bench. Alert to tap home Cardiff’s fourth goal and nearly added another from a free-kick.
