While The Wire did not need to get out of second gear to brush Goole Vikings aside on Saturday, they picked up injuries to two of their forwards during the first half at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Neither Toafofoa Sipley nor Jordy Crowther re-appeared for the second half, with Crowther having come off just after scoring his try while Sipley completed the half but did not reappear.
After the game, head coach Sam Burgess admitted the initial prognosis on Sipley in particular did not look promising.
“We lost Toff – he looks like he’s picked up a lower-leg injury,” he said.
“More than likely he’s going to be out for a while – we’ll get it scanned on Monday to see how bad it is.
“He injured his knee and was carrying that and then he did his calf on the other leg, so he’s got a couple there but hopefully, they’re not too bad.”
George Williams and Danny Walker were also withdrawn at half time although with Ben Hartill and Leon Hayes on the bench, Burgess insisted that was always the plan and that the two of them – along with everybody else – got through the game unscathed.
“Taking George and Danny off was planned,” he said.
“We actually got thrown a few curveballs as I only planned to make two changes in the first half but because of injuries, we made four.
“Jordy Crowther picked up an ankle injury as well, but I was always going to take George and Danny off at half time.
“That 13 that went out after half time played the whole second half so we were fortunate to be able to do that.”
