A road was cordoned off in Birmingham after trouble in a nearby street led to a man being attacked and taken to hospital.

The initial incident took place in Soho Road in Handsworth, with a number of men involved in an altercation on Sunday, March 15.

But then a man was found in Rookery Road following an attack.

The man, in his 30s, was discovered at around 5.20am.

He was taken to hospital but is not believed to have suffered life-threatening of changing injuries.

Rookery Road and Queens Head Road were cordoned off by police after the incident.

A witness said there were two police vans and one or two police cars in the area as he went past at 1.30pm. But the cordons have now been lifted.

West Midlands Police are now asking for witnesses to the trouble or the assault involving the man to come forward.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We’re investigating after a man was assaulted in Handsworth in the early hours of today.

“The man, in his 30s, was found on Rookery Road at around 5.20am.

“He was taken to hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

“It is believed he may have been involved in a disorder involving a number of men a short time earlier nearby on the Soho Road.

“CCTV and witness enquiries are continuing and anyone with information has been asked to get in touch on 101.
