Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner were noticeably absent for large chunks of the Oscars — fuelling speculation the couple quietly slipped out of the ceremony after a brutal night for the star. Insiders claim the pair vanished from their prime seats for most of the broadcast before returning later in the evening, prompting whispers inside the Dolby Theatre that the Oscars snub and persistent jokes had stung more than they let on. An eyewitness told Express.co.uk the Hollywood couple left far earlier than viewers realised. “Timothée and Kylie disappeared during the Best Animated Short category and didn’t come back for ages. It was a huge gap — basically most of the show.”

The source added that their absence did not go unnoticed by those seated nearby. “Seat fillers were put in their places almost immediately.” According to the insider, their empty chairs sparked chatter throughout the theatre. “People kept looking over expecting them to come back, but they just didn’t. It definitely raised eyebrows because nominees usually stay put.”

Chalamet, 30, had entered the night with high hopes for Marty Supreme, but walked away empty-handed after losing both Best Actor and Best Picture — a double blow that capped weeks of controversy.

The actor has faced intense backlash after claiming “no one cares” about opera or ballet, remarks that ignited fury across the arts world and reportedly threatened a lucrative Cartier deal.

Host Conan O’Brien wasted no time referencing the row during his opening monologue, joking about heightened security.

“Security is extremely tight tonight…I’m told theres concerns about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities.”

Looking directly at Chalamet in the audience, O’Brien added: “They are just mad you left out jazz!”

Chalamet appeared to laugh along, but he soon exited the theatre.

The digs did not stop there. Later in the show, filmmaker Alexandre Singh took a thinly veiled swipe during his acceptance speech for Best Short Film.

“Because we believe that art can change people’s souls… we can change people’s lives through art, through creativity – through theatre and ballet – and also cinema.”

The reference drew knowing reactions in the room, with cameras catching Chalamet still in the audience at that point.

O’Brien also attempted to lighten the mood later, calling out to the actor from the stage.

“I’m vibing with Timothee right now, we’re vibing, right?!” When no response came, he quipped: “He doesn’t think so, alright!”

The 98th Academy Awards crowned One Battle After Another as the night’s biggest winner, taking Best Picture and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson along with several other major prizes.

Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for Sinners, while Jessie Buckley secured Best Actress for Hamnet. Sean Penn picked up Supporting Actor for One Battle After Another, and Amy Madigan won Supporting Actress for Weapons.

Sinners also scored key technical awards, including Original Screenplay and Cinematography. Elsewhere, Sentimental Value won International Feature, KPop Demon Hunters dominated animation and song, and Frankenstein swept multiple design categories.
