PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. — A shooting at a Veterans Affairs clinic in north Georgia left one person hospitalized and the suspected gunman shot Tuesday afternoon.
Police responded to the VA clinic in Jasper around 1:30 p.m., where officers encountered the suspected shooter and confronted them, the city says.
During that encounter, officers shot the suspect.
Investigators say one victim was found at the scene and was airlifted to a hospital. No update has been provided on that person’s condition.
The VA outpatient clinic in Jasper provides a range of services, including primary care, mental health care, laboratory services and telehealth, according to its website.
Calls to the clinic Tuesday afternoon went unanswered.
Jasper is a town of about 4,600 people located roughly 60 miles north of Atlanta, at the edge of the Appalachian Mountains.
