Israel on Tuesday registered another major military success after killing several top Iranian officials, first and foremost Ali Larijani, the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and among the country’s longest-serving leaders. The other victims included Gholamreza Soleimani, the head of the Basij, one of the chief instruments of repression in the country, as well as his deputy. Israeli intelligence is still assessing what happened to Akram al-Ajouri, the No. 2 official in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, who was probably killed last week in Tehran, after taking refuge there years ago.
