03/18/2026March 18, 2026Iran war will have ‘global repercussions’ — Iranian foreign minister
The war in the Middle East will have an impact across the globe, affecting everyone in the world, Iran’s top diplomat has said.
The “wave of global repercussions has only begun and will hit all — regardless of wealth, faith, or race,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on X.
Araghchi also said that recognition that “the war on Iran is unjust” was growing, including in Europe and the US, and that more in the international community should speak out against it.
In other comments Araghchi made to Al Jazeera relayed by Iranian media, he said that Tehran’s stance against developing nuclear weapons was unlikely to change under Iran’s new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
His father, the country’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed early on in the US-Israeli war against Iran, issued a fatwa, or religious edict, in the early 2000s that opposed developing weapons of mass destruction.
Araghchi said, however, that he was not yet in a position to judge the jurisprudential or political views of Mojtaba Khamenei, who assumed the top position on March 8.
Many Western countries have long accused Iran of seeking to build a nuclear arsenal, something Tehran has always denied.
